1. Check expiration dates: Always check the expiration dates on food packages before purchasing. Choose products with longer expiration dates to give yourself more time to consume them.

2. First in, first out: When storing food in your pantry or refrigerator, practice the “first in, first out” rule. Place newer items at the back and older items at the front. This way, you’ll be more likely to use the older items before they expire.

3. Proper storage: Make sure to store perishable foods, such as meats and dairy products, in the refrigerator at the appropriate temperature. Keep your pantry cool and dry to prevent spoilage of non-perishable items.

4. Freeze leftovers: If you have leftover food that you won’t be able to consume before it expires, consider freezing it. Freezing can extend the shelf life of many foods, allowing you to enjoy them at a later time.

5. Plan meals and make a shopping list: Plan your meals in advance and make a shopping list accordingly. This will help you buy only what you need and reduce the chances of food going to waste.

6. Use your senses: Trust your senses when assessing the freshness of food. Look for any signs of spoilage, such as mold, discoloration, or unusual odors. If something seems off, it’s best to err on the side of caution and discard it.

7. Donate excess food: If you have food that is nearing its expiration date but is still safe to consume, consider donating it to a local food bank or shelter. This way, you can help others while also reducing food waste.
Remember, being mindful of food expiration dates and storage practices can help you avoid wasting food and save money in the long run.
